So these days I’ve gone social, not as in going out and meeting people and that sort of thing, just in registering for a few “social” sites and then a couple of content aggregation sites I seem to have developed a circle of sites I keep up to date with little random comments, pics and tweets.
I can be found lurking here of course, but also at the following
Oh course years ago I was on six degrees, a precursor to all of these young upstarts with their 2.0 (*cough*) ways hadn’t even been dreamt of and updating of course meant you pretty much needed a computer.
Not sure how I ended up on so many sites, and in fact most of them update each other anyway, so if I add some “content” in twitter or facebook it ends up going on to about 4 or 5 other sites, wonder if I could take one of them down with infinite posting to each other ? (I bet you could when the developer first added the “link to other site” function.
Now with more powerful and easier to use devices you can update people from anywhere, and in some cases use the apps / social sites to alert you of people you know in the vicinity (more useful when in town than when I’m at home)
Like all things some (most) of these sites will die as people jump on to the next greatest thing, a few will survive, those that offer ease of updating from any device, any where are more likely to make it, likewise those that come up with a way of tapping into the mass of users they have accumulated without pissing them off through selling the data / too many adverts have a chance as well. The big thing is will Web2.0 (*hack*) lead to a version of .com 2.0 bust or is the global economy going into a meltdown (sorta) already doing that ?
I’m trying to limit myself to just a few of those by either not getting involved at all or not updating very often.
