I’m back

Wednesday, April 27th, 2011

did you miss me ?

Didn’t think so, but anyway after a not long enough break my personal website is back up, nothing has changed on it, it’s the old site, on the same server, with the same old pointless drivel.

Of course just because I’ve brought the blog back to life doesn’t mean I have any better ideas of what to do with it.

Not so much the tools, more the user

Monday, March 15th, 2010

So this blog, if not dead is certainly on its knees watching its own blood seeping into the ground… and I’ve been meaning to post stuff up, there is certainly plenty going on, but there is also plenty that I don’t feel I can write about for various reasons… and for this last reason I’ve just taken the easier option of doing fuck all.

So I’ve blamed the blogging tool, tumblr is easier, they certainly have a nice iPhonie app, but then I also use a combination of twitter / facebook to ensure I keep up with my daily quota of inane internet drivel (both of which also have nice iPhone apps) oh and of course my photos are on flickr (there’s an app for that) and then this blog is based on word press (there’s an app for that too)

And so what to do? I want to post (something) once and have it appear on appropriate sites, I want also to the win the lottery.

Oh and seeing as I forgot to mention it here just after it happened I’m dad again, Nell was born on the 30th November 2009

Blimey, I really have been shit.

It’s the economy stupid

Unless of course you are the current prime minister, in which case it is seemingly more important to ensure that as far as the royal family is concerned, they should be able to marry left footers, and that women can now take the top job even if there are other royal men alive (well done princess Anne you get promotion from 10th to 4th)

*seriously*

Who gives one? (apart from the idiot on TV right now, no not Nicholas Witchell, some other “expert”)

Still maybe Gordon is taking 5 minutes out from preparing for the G20… (how ex-president Blair must be killing himself laughing now)

Working it out.

(had this sitting in drafts since before Christmas, thought it might be time to share it)

So I have a shiny new MBP to play with, accidental order to be honest, but a useful one at that, I’ve gone through and done the magic OSX transfer, updated the licenses that didn’t “quite” transfer and have now just tweaked the apache settings that *never* get carried across, and what do I think ?

- Buttonless mouse, not sure, need more time with it
- Keyboard, like the MBA I had for a bit, lovely, fastest laptop keyboard I can type on.
- Performance, the jury is out here, my “old” MBP had 6Gb of RAM and so was no slouch, it got worked hard for sure, now I’ve downgraded to 4Gb, and I have a general feeling of waiting when starting fusion and the like.

Time will tell, I think the machine will probably be faster in real world usage, and I’m sure whichever of my colleagues will love my old machine, after all unlike most of my colleagues I keep my machines in good condition and they don’t get dented, dropped etc.

Finally, the design, gorgeous doesn’t even come close, the chassis is a work of art and I’m already in love with the new screen (although I do have to keep removing Iona’s finger prints) I like the ports all on one side, although I will need to change my desk around at work, it’s neater, and I like the battery indicators on the same side too, rather than on the base where I always forget, until flying.

blimey!

You can still buy a teasmade !

I’m stunned, I would’ve thought they would have “gone away” or at least evolved into something that actually made drinkable tea.

Tech Support

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

Just thought I would quickly post up my response to SonicWall and their helldesk…

I couldn’t actually be bothered to waste more of my time so haven’t responded, your “service” is rubbish and always leaves me disappointed that I’ve purchased your products.

You could find the serial numbers of other devices I manage by looking into my account, but clearly that is a bit too obvious for you.

I’ve reconfigured the WiFi, not as I’d ideally like but it works well enough and should suffice for our needs.

Feel free to do what you like with this ticket, delete it, print it out and eat it, pass it up the chain to management (yeah right) or much more likely, just delete.

Wonder if Cisco service is any better? Doubt it can be any worse.

Regards
Dave

Car Update

Friday, August 22nd, 2008

IT’S BACK…..
;-)

Just over 4 months for a car to be fixed after having the stereo nicked…. someone is taking the piss. Lesson learnt, no more after market kit, just the best kit that the car maker offers as an upgrade. (of course VW now offer a better GPS unit than they did when I got the car)

Now I just need to get angry with the leasing company and get that all sorted out, being an adult is tedious at times.

A very British protest

Monday, January 28th, 2008

So rail commuters on First Great Western are protesting about the fares they have to pay and the level of service they get in return…

but they are doing it in a very British way and refusing to show their tickets, I would imagine that 99% people using the service have a ticket and the usual 1% are fare dodging, can’t really imagine FGW really caring, those caught without a ticket or refusing to show one will just be fined more than the cost of the ticket they are protesting about.
