July 2008
So July, then. One ride. Forty-two minutes, 20.2 kilometres on what I've logged as an Evening Ride, which at least suggests I made it outside after work rather than just thinking about it from the sofa. I'll take the small wins where I can find them. That said, the session was apparently good enough to bag 18 achievements and 6 personal records, which either means I was riding remarkably well or, more likely, that the bar for setting records when you've barely ridden before is reassuringly low.
Coming off the back of June — where the grand total of recorded activity was precisely nothing — I suppose a single 42-minute ride does technically represent infinite percentage improvement, so there's that. To be fair to myself, it's summer, the evenings are long, and the fact that I'm back on the bike at all is probably worth something. So the question now is whether this is the start of something or just a one-off burst of enthusiasm that quietly fades back into zero by August. History, if I'm honest, would suggest I should manage my expectations accordingly.
