So September, then. One run, 39 minutes, 6.9 kilometres — not exactly the training block that's going to have anyone worried about their Strava segments. That said, the Morning Run did yield 6 PRs, which sounds impressive until you remember that setting a personal record is considerably easier when you haven't run in a while and the bar is essentially on the floor. Still, averaging 5:37 per kilometre over nearly 7km on a crisp autumn morning is a perfectly respectable way to remember that legs still work, and I'll take the 15 achievements as the algorithm being kind.

The comparison with August is, shall we say, straightforward — given that August produced precisely zero recorded activities, any movement at all represents an infinite percentage improvement (I've done the maths). So something stirred in September, whether it was the cooler air, the guilt, or simply the realisation that the summer had quietly slipped by without a great deal to show for it. The encouraging thing is that the pace felt manageable and there's clearly a base to build from, however modest. The less encouraging thing is that one run does not a comeback make, and I've told myself that before.
