November 2008
Compared with October 2008
So November, then. One ride. A single, solitary Morning Ride of 140 minutes covering 59.3 kilometres, which I suppose I should be grateful for given that it happened at all. To be fair to myself, it's not nothing — that's a decent stretch in the saddle for an autumn morning when the sensible part of your brain is suggesting you stay indoors with a cup of tea. Whether it counts as a training month or merely evidence that I own a bike is, I'll admit, a fine distinction.
Compared to October, the drop-off is fairly stark — three rides, 263 minutes and 117.6 kilometres against this month's rather more modest figures. October already wasn't going to trouble anyone's training logs for the right reasons, but November has managed to undercut it by some margin. So the combination of shorter days, colder mornings, and whatever else November throws at you in this country has clearly done its work. The question going into December is whether I arrest the slide or quietly accept that the bike is now a very expensive coat hook until spring. I'd like to say I'll be back out there, and I probably will — eventually.
