So April, then. Three runs, 24 kilometres, and 143 minutes of me convincing myself that getting out of bed before work was a reasonable life choice. The pace crept up a touch — averaging 5:58 per kilometre, which sounds respectable until you remember that still puts me well outside anything I'd be proud to admit at a race start line. The Morning Run sessions were doing most of the heavy lifting this month, and 11 personal bests suggests either genuine improvement or that I've been setting a very low bar for myself (probably both, if I'm honest).

Compared to March, the numbers are down — four runs and 33 kilometres versus three and 24 — so on the face of it, a quieter month. March had a bit more variety with the odd Lunch Run thrown in, which I suspect says more about the weather improving enough to venture outside at midday than any great tactical training plan on my part. Still, the pace is heading in the right direction, and spring being properly here now means fewer excuses involving darkness or frozen fingers. So the intention going into May is to claw back some of that volume, get the long run back in the mix, and perhaps — just perhaps — do a bit more preparation than I usually allow myself.
