March 2010
Compared with February 2010
So March, in terms of getting out there and actually doing anything, was pretty lean. Two runs, 55 minutes of actual movement, covering 9.3 kilometres — which, if I'm being generous to myself, at least represents consistent behaviour in the sense that I also managed exactly two runs in February. The notable session was a Morning Run, which sounds more purposeful than it probably was, though I did manage to bring my average pace down to 5:56 per kilometre, which at least suggests the legs were turning over a bit more willingly than they have been. A personal record snuck in there too, so I'll take that, even if the bar for what constitutes a record at this stage of proceedings is arguably not that high.
Compared to February the volume actually dropped fairly sharply — 16.3 kilometres down to 9.3, and nearly twice the time spent running (117 minutes versus 55). So I was covering less ground, faster, which could mean fitness is building, or could simply mean the runs were shorter and I had less time to slow down. February did have more elevation in it (246 metres to a rather modest 28), so there's a possibility the flatter routes in March just felt easier by comparison. Spring is supposedly arriving, mornings are getting lighter, and I have fewer excuses now than I did in the depths of a grey February — which means the only thing standing between me and more kilometres is, as ever, me.
