So April, then. Two runs, 80 minutes, and 13.8 kilometres covered at an average of 5:48 per kilometre — which, if I'm being generous to myself, represents a solid enough month for someone clearly still finding their feet in the early part of the year. The Morning Run sessions were doing the heavy lifting, as they tend to, and the fact that I managed to pick up three personal records across those outings suggests either that fitness is genuinely coming together, or that my previous benchmarks were so unimpressive that almost anything would have beaten them. Still, 20 achievements and 3 PRs from just two runs is a return I'll take without too much argument.

Comparing back to March, the improvement is at least measurable — up from 9.3 kilometres and 55 minutes to 13.8 kilometres and 80 minutes, with the pace ticking slightly quicker too (5:56 down to 5:48 per kilometre). Spring presumably helped; it's much easier to drag yourself out of bed when it isn't completely dark and horizontal with rain at 6am. The elevation has doubled as well, which either means I've been finding hillier routes or I've simply stopped going out of my way to avoid them, and honestly I'm not sure which. So the direction of travel is the right one, and if I can keep adding a little distance each month rather than letting a run of busy weeks knock things sideways, there might be something worth writing about by summer.
