So July, then. One run. Forty-one minutes, 6.6 kilometres, and that apparently constitutes my entire month of physical endeavour. I'd like to say there was a grand plan behind it — some structured recovery block, perhaps — but honestly a single Morning Run is all I've got to show for the whole of July. On the bright side, my pace was a more respectable 6:11 per kilometre, which is at least pointing in the right direction, even if the distance isn't.

Which is more than can be said for the trend overall, because June wasn't exactly a vintage month either — two runs, just over 17 kilometres, nearly two hours of moving — and somehow I've managed to do even less since then. You'd think the long summer evenings and dry weather would make it easier to get out, and you'd be wrong. So going into August I'm carrying about as much momentum as a man who's been sitting on a garden chair for six weeks, which is to say, very little. Something needs to change, and I suspect that something is me actually putting my trainers on.
