August 2010
Compared with July 2010
So August, then. One run. Twenty-five minutes, 4 kilometres, and I think that probably tells you everything you need to know about where my training is right now. To be fair to myself, it was a Morning Run — which sounds far more virtuous than it felt at the time — and I held a reasonable enough pace at 6:12 per kilometre, which is at least consistent with the kind of runner I am (slow, but reliably so).
The slightly uncomfortable truth is that July wasn't exactly a vintage month either — one run, 6.6 kilometres, 41 minutes — and yet somehow August managed to be worse. You'd think that with long summer days, warm mornings and no real excuse not to be out there, I'd have more to show for it. Apparently not. So the trend, if I'm being honest with myself, is heading in entirely the wrong direction, and "entirely the wrong direction" is doing a lot of heavy lifting there. Something needs to change in September, and ideally that something is me actually getting my trainers on more than once a month.
