March 2011
Compared with February 2011
So March, and by the looks of it I actually managed to drag myself out of bed more than twice. Three runs totalling just under 20km and around two hours and ten minutes of moving — which, given the time of year and the general state of my motivation, I'll take. The pace sat at 6:38 per kilometre, which is firmly in the "comfortable but not exactly threatening any course records" territory. The Morning Run sessions were the backbone of it, as unglamorous as that sounds, and 202 metres of elevation across the month suggests I was at least occasionally pointing myself uphill rather than taking the flat route out of laziness.
Compared to February's two runs and 12.9km, this is a reasonable step forward — nearly 7km more covered and about 45 minutes more on my feet, which in the grand scheme of things isn't nothing. February was always going to be grim (dark mornings, cold, the usual litany of excuses), so the fact that March nudged things along is probably down to the days getting a bit longer and the temperature creeping above "actively unpleasant." The average pace barely changed — 6:41 down to 6:38 — so I'm not getting faster, just doing slightly more of the same. Still, if I can keep adding a run or two each month, something resembling fitness might eventually show up uninvited.
