August 2011
Compared with July 2011
So August, then. One run. A single, solitary 42-minute plod covering 6.3km at a pace that I'd charitably describe as leisurely (6:41 per km, since we're being honest). That was it. The sum total of my athletic endeavours for the entire month — one Morning Run, logged and then apparently used as justification to do absolutely nothing else. On the bright side, there was at least some elevation involved, all 10 metres of it.
So compared to July, which by my standards was practically a training montage — two runs, just over 20km, a couple of personal bests and a pace a full minute per kilometre quicker — August represents something of a step backwards. To be fair, it's the height of summer, which in Britain means it either rained constantly or was inexplicably too warm to contemplate exercising, and I suspect life had a habit of getting in the way as it tends to do. The slightly concerning thing is that the fitness I'd quietly started to build in July will, if I'm not careful, quietly disappear again by September. So the plan is to do more than one run next month. A low bar, admittedly, but you have to start somewhere.
