May 2013
Compared with April 2013
So May, then. Two runs, 47 minutes, 7.5 kilometres — not exactly the kind of training log that's going to trouble the podium at any race you'd care to name. That said, it's spring, the mornings are getting lighter, and at least I dragged myself out of bed for a couple of Morning Runs rather than simply thinking about it from under the duvet, which I'm counting as a moral victory. There was even a personal record in there somewhere, which either means I'm getting faster or my previous times were even more embarrassing than I remembered (probably the latter).
Compared to April — where I managed a marginally more respectable 8.7 kilometres across the same number of outings — May was actually a small step backwards in distance, even if the pace crept up very slightly to 6:19 per kilometre versus 6:26. So I'm running a bit quicker and a bit less, which is one way of interpreting progress, though I suspect the honest interpretation is just inconsistency. The warmer weather has removed the excuses around dark, wet mornings, which means if June looks anything like this I'll have nobody to blame but myself. Something to think about.
