August 2013
Compared with July 2013
So August turned out to be a quieter month than I'd have liked, nine activities in total and just under seven hours of moving — which sounds more impressive than it probably was. The split was three rides and six runs, covering 74 kilometres on the bike and just shy of 37 on foot, which at least means I was getting out there with some regularity. The riding was the brighter story, picking up 12 personal records across those three sessions, which given I'm never entirely sure I'm pushing hard enough on the bike was a pleasant surprise. The runs were steady enough, averaging around six and a half minutes per kilometre, which is fine if you're training for a gentle Sunday stroll rather than anything with a timing chip.
Compared to July, the numbers are down across the board — twelve activities then versus nine now, and I've somehow managed to drop the swimming entirely (one open water swim in July, which I suspect I'm still counting as a moral victory). The total active time fell slightly too, from 433 minutes to 418, which in the grand scheme of things is marginal but still the wrong direction of travel. So the honest read is that August was a consolidation month, or at least that's what I'll call it rather than admitting the summer got in the way. The riding pace looks to be building nicely though, and if I can carry that into September and actually string a few more runs together, something resembling fitness might yet emerge.
