December 2013
Compared with November 2013
So December, then. Five runs, 37 kilometres, and 268 minutes of what I can only describe as getting out there and doing it — which, in a British December, deserves some credit on its own. No races to speak of, though a session logged simply as "Morning Run" managed to rack up five personal records, which either means I'm finally getting faster or, more likely, that my previous performances in that category were even more embarrassing than I'd remembered. Either way, I'll take it. The pace averaged out at 7:15 per kilometre, which is honest running rather than impressive running, but at least the legs kept moving.
Compared to November, which had the Marlow Half Marathon doing most of the heavy lifting across just three runs, December was a bit more consistent if rather less dramatic — more kilometres, more activities, though the pace has softened by about 35 seconds per kilometre, and the elevation has dropped from 375 metres to a fairly flat 108. So whether that's the dark mornings, the mince pies, or simply the absence of a race to aim at, something has taken the edge off. Still, five runs in December is not nothing, and if I can carry that frequency into January and find something with a start line to focus on, there might be something worth building here.
