July was a quiet one by most measures — five activities, four hours of moving, and a month that belonged almost entirely to the bike. I managed three rides covering just shy of 60km, which doesn't sound like much until you consider that I also knocked out three personal records in the process, so apparently the legs had something to say even if the schedule didn't. The rides themselves were a pleasingly varied bunch — a Lunch Ride, an Afternoon Ride, and an Evening Ride — which is either a sign of flexibility or of someone who couldn't quite commit to a consistent time of day (almost certainly the latter). The running, by contrast, was a fairly muted affair: two outings, 8.6km in total, shuffling along at 7:14 per kilometre, which I'm choosing to describe as "measured."

So compared to June, the overall picture is a bit contradictory. I actually did more activities this month — five versus four — but spent significantly less time doing them, 240 minutes against June's 314, which suggests shorter, sharper efforts rather than any kind of endurance push. June had more running, 20km across three sessions, and I suspect the longer summer evenings and the novelty of actually being able to get outside played into pushing the bike more heavily this month. The pace improvement on the runs is modest but there — 7:14 against 7:28 — so something is quietly ticking along in the right direction. Whether I build on that in August remains to be seen, though history suggests I'll find a reason not to.
