So 2015 turned out to be a reasonably active year, all things considered — 182 activities logged and just over 2,700 minutes of moving around trying to look like I know what I'm doing. The big shift was the bike, which absolutely dominated proceedings with 151 rides covering just under 400km, a fair chunk of those spent on Zwift grinding away indoors where at least it doesn't rain. Running held its own with 31 outings and just over 210km on the legs, and I was quietly pleased to see my average pace drop from 7:15 down to 6:50 per kilometre, which suggests something is actually improving even if it doesn't always feel that way. Throw in 145 cycling achievements and 30 running PRs and on paper at least, 2015 looks like a year I should be reasonably proud of.

Comparing back to 2014 though, it's a slightly mixed picture. I did considerably more activities — 182 versus 111 — so the consistency was clearly better, but I actually spent less total time moving (2,708 minutes against 2,856), which tells you something about the shorter, sharper sessions that crept into the routine. The cycling distance dipped slightly too, from 423km to 399km, though I did far less elevation this year which probably explains the missing kilometres and, frankly, also explains why some of those rides felt more manageable. What 2014 had that 2015 didn't was races — two of them — and that's something worth fixing, because having an actual event on the calendar has a rather wonderful way of getting you off the sofa on a dark morning when nothing else will.
