March 2015
Compared with February 2015
March was, by my own modest standards, a reasonably productive month. Eight activities, just shy of three and a half hours of actual moving — which sounds more impressive than it probably is when you realise seven of those rides never left the living room. Zwift has become something of a crutch, if I'm honest, though I'm choosing to reframe that as "structured indoor training" rather than "avoiding the cold." The sole run of the month was a fairly uninspiring 3.2km at a pace that suggests I was either taking it very easy or carrying something heavy (I wasn't).
So compared to February, which was — let's be charitable — a write-off (one indoor ride, 23 minutes, 10km, the end), March at least represents a pulse. Getting seven rides done, covering 83.7km across 183 minutes, feels like a genuine step forward even if most of it was pedalling at a screen in my socks. The spring light is starting to creep back in, which usually does more for my motivation than any amount of sensible planning, so there's some cause for cautious optimism going into April. The trick now, as ever, will be turning all this indoor base fitness into something that actually holds up when there's a finish line involved.
