2016 turned out to be a genuinely solid year of training, and I'm pretty pleased with how it all came together. Across 258 activities and just over 3,900 minutes of moving, I kept a healthy mix of riding, running, and rowing in the mix — with cycling doing most of the heavy lifting at 163 rides, covering 672 kilometres and climbing nearly 4,900 metres in the saddle. My 85 runs added another 238 kilometres to the total, and while I picked up 6 running PRs and 15 achievements, it was on the bike where I really found my groove, bagging 33 PRs and 79 achievements across everything from evening spins to longer efforts. The rowing was a nice complement too — 10 sessions, mostly indoor, keeping the heart rate honest at an average of 140 bpm.

Stacking 2016 up against 2015, the progress is genuinely encouraging. I went from 182 activities to 258, and from around 2,700 minutes to nearly 4,000 — so the consistency is clearly heading in the right direction. On the bike especially, the jump from 399 kilometres to 672, and from 835 metres of elevation to nearly 4,900, shows I pushed into properly hilly territory rather than just spinning out flat miles on Zwift. My running volume grew too — 31 runs in 2015 to 85 in 2016 — though my average pace has slipped from 6:50 to 7:42 per kilometre, which tells me I was running more but maybe not racing as sharply, so that's a focus to carry into next year. All in all, 2016 gave me a strong foundation — now to build on it.
