So May was a quieter month than I'd have liked, though I'm not entirely sure what I was expecting given the state of things. Fourteen activities in total across the month, which sounds reasonable until you realise that adds up to just under three and a quarter hours of actual movement — not exactly the training diary of someone with serious ambitions. The riding was the bulk of it, ten sessions covering 46.8 kilometres with 349 metres of climbing, and I'll take the two PRs as a small win even if I'm not entirely sure how I managed them. The runs were, to put it charitably, more of a gesture than a training block — four outings, 2 kilometres total, at an average pace of 23:30 per kilometre, which I think technically means I was walking (at least one of them was indoors, which tells its own story).

Compared to April, the riding held steady at ten sessions, though the numbers tell a rather different tale — nearly six times the distance this month and almost five times the elevation, which suggests I was actually going outside rather than spinning somewhere flat and giving up after eight minutes. The running, on the other hand, went somewhat backwards; April had ten runs covering 9.9 kilometres, and May managed four and 2 kilometres, so something clearly fell off the wagon there. So the brighter evenings and longer days clearly helped get me out on the bike, which is the traditional British spring trade-off — the weather improves just enough to make cycling feel appealing, while somehow making running feel entirely optional. Going forward, I probably need to have a quiet word with myself about that.
