October was a quieter month than I'd have liked, if I'm honest. Eighteen activities and around 348 minutes of moving — which sounds reasonable until you realise a good chunk of that was spent indoors, largely because autumn had decided to arrive with its usual British enthusiasm for grey skies and damp everything. The running made up the bulk of it, eleven sessions covering 38.6 kilometres at a pace that I'll diplomatically describe as "relaxed" (7:34 per kilometre, since we're being honest), with a handful of PR flags popping up on Strava which was a pleasant surprise. Parkrun made an appearance too, which always feels like the right thing to do on a Saturday morning, even when every instinct is telling you to stay under the duvet.

So, compared to September, the numbers are down across the board — fewer activities, less time, less distance, and the cycling in particular took a real hit, dropping from six rides to just two. September had given me 22 activities and nearly 400 minutes, which felt like genuine momentum at the time, and October has rather taken the wind out of those sails. The darker mornings and the creeping cold have a lot to answer for, and I suspect the rowing machine appearances are a direct consequence of deciding the outdoors could frankly get on with itself. Going forward, the challenge is the same one it always is at this time of year — keeping the habit alive through November before the whole thing quietly collapses until January.
