February 2017
Compared with January 2017
February, then. Fourteen runs totalling 131km, which by my standards is a pretty solid month — certainly more than I had any right to expect given that it's the shortest month of the year and the weather had absolutely no obligation to cooperate. That works out to just over 15 hours on my feet, which felt about right, even if a fair few of those kilometres were ground out at a distinctly unspectacular 6:55 per kilometre. The highlight reel included a handful of Lunch Runs squeezed into the working day and some early Morning Runs that I'm choosing to remember as characterful rather than grim. Oh, and one rowing session of five minutes and 200 metres, which I'm counting as cross-training and we'll say no more about it.
So comparing February to January is actually quite encouraging, if you squint at it the right way. January had 25 activities against February's 15, but I covered more ground this month — 131km versus 125km — in fewer sessions and with 40 achievements and 14 personal records, compared to just 2 the month before (a fact I'm trying not to read too much into). The elevation has gone up considerably too, from 760 metres to 1,119 metres, which either means I've been seeking out hillier routes or I've simply stopped going out of my way to avoid them. Going into March, the days are at least getting longer, which historically improves my motivation considerably — though I've thought that before and still managed to find the sofa.
