So April was very much a month on the bike, which either says something about the improving spring weather or my growing reluctance to put one foot in front of the other at any kind of pace. Fourteen rides across the month covered 65.8 km with 511 metres of climbing, which I'll take — particularly as I managed to sneak out a PR along the way, suggesting the legs aren't entirely given up on the idea of trying. The running, by contrast, was fairly token: two outings totalling a rather unimpressive 6.3 km, though at least my average pace of 6:02 per km was slightly less embarrassing than it has been. Two Morning Runs does not a training block make, but it's technically more than zero.

So compared to March, the numbers tell an interesting story — or rather, a slightly uncomfortable one. Last month I logged 17 activities and 432 minutes of actual effort, including seven runs covering 41.2 km and six personal records, which in hindsight was clearly unsustainable (for me, anyway). April came in at 253 minutes total, which is a fairly significant drop and probably reflects the classic post-effort slump where the body decides it's done being heroic for a while. The bike has clearly become my default mode when motivation is patchy, which isn't necessarily a bad thing — at least I'm moving. Going forward, the running needs to find its way back into the routine before the gap between what I can do and what I remember being able to do gets any wider.
