May 2017
Compared with April 2017
So May turned out to be a fairly quiet month by any measure — 14 activities, around 230 minutes of actual moving, which works out at not a huge amount when you spread it across a whole month. The bulk of that was on the bike, with 12 rides covering 57 kilometres and just under 190 minutes in the saddle, the Evening Ride being the one I kept coming back to (presumably because the mornings remained unconvincing). Running made a modest appearance too, just twice, but I did manage 6.9 kilometres at a pace of around 6:24 per kilometre, which at least earned me a couple of achievements — so Strava was more impressed than I was.
Comparing that to April, the numbers are actually pretty similar, which is either reassuring or a bit telling depending on how charitable you're feeling. April had 16 activities and 253 minutes, slightly more distance on the bike at 65.8 kilometres, and the runs were marginally quicker at 6:02 per kilometre — so if anything I've gone a little backwards as spring has supposedly arrived and the evenings have got lighter. You'd think that would help. So the honest reflection here is that May was fine, in the way that treading water is fine — nothing went wrong, nothing particularly went right, and June is probably going to need a bit more intent behind it if anything is actually going to improve.
