August 2017
Compared with July 2017
August was a reasonable month all things considered — seven activities, just over three hours of moving, split between five runs and a couple of rides. The running was the more interesting half of it, covering 24.6 kilometres across the month at an average pace of 6:38 per kilometre, which is hardly going to trouble the record books but is at least heading in the right direction. A Holiday Run snuck in there, which I'm always quietly pleased about (it's too easy to write the whole week off and blame the heat), and I managed to get a Parkrun done too, picking up three achievements along the way. The rides were short — 9.4 kilometres between them — but an Evening Ride and a Morning Ride at least suggests I was making a token effort to get out at different ends of the day.
So comparing August to July is actually quite encouraging, even if the bar wasn't set especially high. July managed six activities and 132 minutes total, with the running being the weaker discipline — just two runs, 10.2 kilometres, and a pace of 6:46 per kilometre. August flipped that around nicely, with the runs doing the heavy lifting and the mileage more than doubling, which in summer at least makes sense — lighter mornings, less excuse to stay in bed, and the vague motivation that comes from not being entirely sure what you're training for yet. The elevation on the runs jumped too, up to 334 metres, which either means the routes are getting more interesting or I've forgotten how to read a map. Going into September I'd like to keep the run frequency up and perhaps make the rides count for a bit more than a gentle pedal around the block.
