September turned out to be a reasonable month, all things considered. Fifteen activities and just over six hours of moving — thirteen of those were runs, which adds up to 48 kilometres at a rather pedestrian 7:04 per kilometre (I'm aware, thank you). The bike made a couple of brief appearances, an evening ride and a morning ride between them covering about nine and a half kilometres, which I think we can all agree is more of a gesture towards cycling than an actual training commitment. The highlight of the running was parkrun, which at least forces me out of bed on a Saturday with some vague sense of purpose, and somewhere in there I managed one achievement, which sounds more impressive than it probably was.

So compared to August — five runs versus thirteen is actually a meaningful step up, even if the pace has drifted out by about twenty-six seconds per kilometre (the colder mornings are absolutely to blame and I'm sticking to that). August had the novelty of a holiday run, which always feels virtuous in a way that regular training somehow doesn't, but the total time active was only 192 minutes against September's 370, so the direction of travel is at least the right one. The elevation is creeping up too, which either means I'm tackling more interesting routes or just that autumn has reminded me the hills don't flatten themselves. The question now is whether I can keep the momentum going as the dark mornings really set in, or whether I'll find increasingly creative reasons why today is not the day.
