August 2018
Compared with July 2018
So August was, by any measure, a quiet one. Five activities in total — four rides and a single run — adding up to just 91 minutes of actual exercise across the whole month. The rides were all local loops around Horsham, nothing ambitious, and the one run clocked in at 4.6km at a pace that I'm going to generously describe as "comfortable" rather than slow (6:54 per km, since you're asking). On the plus side, I did pick up one cycling achievement, which felt slightly hollow given the competition was essentially myself on a Tuesday evening.
So compared to July, which by contrast looked almost heroic — 24 activities, 430 minutes, parkrun appearances, an indoor swim, and a respectable 22.9km of running — August was a bit of a write-off. July's run pace was a full 37 seconds per kilometre quicker too, which suggests I was at least trying back then. You'd think the long summer evenings would have helped, but apparently not. I'm not entirely sure whether to blame the heat, the holiday season, or just a general loss of momentum, but the numbers don't really leave much room for spin. September is going to need to be a different story.
