September, then. Two rides, thirty-one minutes of actual moving, and that was apparently enough for me to call it a month of training. Both rides were around Horsham, which is at least local enough that I have no excuse of a long drive to factor in. The less said about the total distance — 9.5 kilometres, since we're being honest — the better, though I will note that my average heart rate of 142 bpm suggests I was at least trying moderately hard while I was out there (or possibly just unfit, which remains a strong contender).

So compared to August, which by my standards was practically a golden era of activity — five sessions, four rides and an actual run, nearly an hour and a half of moving — September represents a fairly dramatic step backwards. The run has disappeared entirely, the rides have halved, and the whole thing has a whiff of someone who looked out the window one morning, noticed it was getting darker earlier, and quietly decided that was that. Autumn arriving in the UK has historically not been great for my motivation, and September 2018 appears to be no exception. The honest reflection going forward is that if October follows the same trajectory, I'll be writing a summary with one activity and an apology, which frankly feels about right.
