October 2018
Compared with September 2018
October was a fairly solid month by my recent standards, which admittedly isn't setting the bar particularly high. Twenty-two activities across the month — thirteen rides and nine runs — added up to just over seven and a half hours of actual moving, covering 62 kilometres on the bike and just shy of 38 on foot. The running average of 6:13 per kilometre tells its own story (comfortable, let's say), though I did manage to sneak out a personal record somewhere in there, and parkrun continues to be the kind of Saturday morning ritual that makes you feel briefly virtuous before the rest of the weekend undoes the good work.
So compared to September, which — and I'll be generous here — could charitably be described as a month where I did almost nothing, October was a significant step up. Two activities and thirty-one minutes of riding in the whole of September suggests either a very busy life or a very comfortable sofa, probably both. The shift into autumn seems to have helped rather than hindered, which goes against every previous year's evidence, but I'll take it. Whether this is the start of a proper training build or just an unusually motivated October remains to be seen — history suggests I should resist getting too smug about it just yet.
