March 2019
Compared with February 2019
March was a decent month all told — 17 activities and just under eight hours of moving, which doesn't sound like much until you're actually doing it at six in the morning. The bulk of that was running, seven sessions covering just shy of 56 kilometres at an average pace of 5:29 per kilometre, which is a genuine improvement on where I've been sitting lately. I managed to rack up 18 personal records in the process, which either means I'm getting faster or my previous efforts were even more embarrassing than I remember (probably both). The cycling was fairly light — four commutes totalling about 19 kilometres — and I kept the swimming ticking over with six pool sessions and 6.6 kilometres covered, which is quietly becoming the part of the week I look forward to most.
So compared to February, the overall activity count actually dropped slightly — 17 versus 21 — and I spent about 20 minutes less moving in total, which on paper looks like a step backwards. In reality though, the running pace picked up noticeably, from 5:50 to 5:29 per kilometre, and those 18 PRs suggest the body is finally adapting rather than just enduring. February had more indoor running tucked away in those numbers, whereas March felt properly like getting outside again — Horsham Park appearing a few times in the logs is a good sign that the mornings are no longer completely miserable. The question now is whether I can keep building into April without doing something foolish, like entering a race I'm not ready for. Watch this space.
