October 2019
Compared with September 2019
So October, in keeping with the season, was a quieter month than I'd perhaps planned. 26 activities and just over ten and a half hours of moving — which sounds respectable until you put it next to what September looked like. The bulk of it was running, 17 outings covering 79 kilometres at an average of 5:27 per kilometre, including what appears to have been a decent London run which I'll choose to remember fondly regardless of how it actually went. I also managed to drag myself onto the bike twice for what Strava diplomatically recorded as a "Soggy commute" (accurate), plus a couple of swims, two weight training sessions, and a pair of HIIT workouts — so at least the variety was there, even if the volume wasn't.
The contrast with September is, frankly, a little embarrassing to type out. September was 43 activities, over 18 hours, and 161 kilometres of running alone — a chunk of that being the RED challenge, where I was essentially running every day, including hotel treadmill efforts that I'm not entirely sure count as running so much as surviving. So yes, October was always going to look a bit thin by comparison, and the shorter days and reliably grim British autumn mornings didn't exactly help with motivation. Still, 13 personal records in October suggests the engine hasn't completely stalled, and maybe — just maybe — a slightly lower-volume month wasn't the worst idea before whatever I decide to sign up for next. I'll take it.
