So December turned out to be a reasonably active month all things considered — 30 activities, just over 20 hours of movement, which for the darkest and coldest month of the year I'll take without complaint. The running was the backbone of it, ten sessions and just over 80km at an average pace of 5:25 per kilometre, including what I somewhat grandly titled the "Last Run of 2020," which felt like it deserved a name even if the run itself probably didn't. Cycling dropped off significantly compared to recent months, though I did manage five rides totalling about 63km, with The Wringer and a couple of Zwift-adjacent efforts keeping things ticking over indoors. I also apparently swam for three minutes, which I'm choosing to count as a discipline rather than an accident near water.

Comparing back to November, the drop in cycling is pretty stark — 11 rides and 151km down to 5 rides and 63km, which is December in the UK doing exactly what December in the UK does. What I did do more of was walk, eight sessions and 42km worth, which is either a sign of healthy active recovery or of finding reasons not to get properly cold on a bike (probably the latter). The running volume held up well enough, only slightly down on November's 96km, which is mildly encouraging. So heading into the new year the base is there, just about — the question as always is whether I can do anything sensible with it before some combination of weather, work, and poor planning gets in the way.
