So December, then. Ten walks totalling just over nine hours of moving and 51.8 kilometres covered, which sounds almost respectable until you realise that the entire month's activity fits neatly into the category of "putting one foot in front of the other and hoping for the best." No runs, no rides, no gym sessions — just walks, rather uninspiringly labelled Morning Walk, Lunch Walk, and Afternoon Walk, which tells you everything you need to know about the creativity I was bringing to December. An average heart rate of 108 beats per minute across the lot suggests my body was at least awake for most of them, even if my motivation wasn't fully along for the ride.

Compared to November, which saw five runs covering 42.5 kilometres, a ride out to Richmond, and even a Fitness+ session (indoor, naturally, because effort needs a warm room), December was a fairly dramatic step back. To be fair to myself — and I'm going to be, just this once — November into December in the UK is a fairly reliable recipe for abandoning any sensible training plan, as the combination of short days, persistent drizzle, and the general gravitational pull of the sofa is genuinely difficult to overcome. So going forward, the walks are at least something to build from, and getting back to running in January is very much the plan. Whether January agrees with that plan remains to be seen.
