So December turned out to be a surprisingly busy month, at least by the numbers — 37 activities and just over 1,683 minutes of moving about, which sounds impressively dedicated until you realise that 21 of those activities were walks and I spent the best part of 1,358 minutes covering 125 kilometres on foot (the dog, presumably, is thrilled). The running was modest but consistent — five sessions, 23 kilometres at around 5:39 per kilometre, which is about the pace you'd expect from someone who is definitely getting back into it and absolutely not just shuffling around an indoor track trying to look purposeful. I also managed to drag myself onto the rowing machine four times and through six proper workouts, which at least suggests some variety, even if the solitary five-minute swim feels less like a training session and more like I remembered I own a pair of goggles.

So compared to November, which was — let's be honest — barely worth logging at four activities and 126 minutes total, December looks like a serious uptick in effort, and in fairness it was. November had all the hallmarks of a month where life and the weather conspired against any real consistency, and two runs covering just over ten kilometres is the kind of output that technically keeps the streak alive without troubling anyone. The shift to mostly indoor training in December makes a lot of sense given that it is dark, wet, and cold outside (Britain in winter, doing what Britain in winter does), and keeping things moving on the treadmill and ergo at least means the habit is there. The question going into the new year is whether I can drag any of this momentum outdoors, or whether January will find me explaining again why conditions weren't quite right.
