April 2023
Compared with March 2023
So April, then. Thirty activities and just over eighteen and a half hours of moving about the place, which sounds reasonable until you compare it with March and realise I've somehow managed to do rather less of everything. The month was pretty much held together by walking — nineteen of them, covering 81 kilometres, which is at least something to feel quietly good about. Running made up the rest of the meaningful work: seven runs, 31 kilometres, and a pace of around six minutes per kilometre that suggests I was either taking it easy or, more honestly, just not in great shape. There was one PR in there somewhere, which I'll take, even if I can't quite remember earning it.
So compared to March, the numbers tell a fairly straightforward story of decline — eleven runs down to seven, 57 kilometres down to 31, and nearly five hours less activity overall. March had me doing nine HIIT sessions; April managed four, which probably says something about motivation levels as the novelty of dark, miserable mornings gave way to slightly less dark, slightly less miserable mornings that I apparently still couldn't drag myself out of bed for. The walks dropped off too, which is harder to excuse given that spring was supposedly arriving. The honest truth is April was a quieter month and I let it be one. The question now is whether May actually gets back on track, or whether I write a very similar post in four weeks' time.
