June 2023
Compared with May 2023
June was, by my own standards at least, a reasonably busy month. Forty-one activities and just over thirty hours of moving about the place, which sounds impressively disciplined until you realise that twenty-eight of those activities were walking — Morning Walks, Lunch Walks, Afternoon Walks, you name it, if there was a time of day attached to it I apparently went for one. Still, 148km and nearly 1,300 metres of elevation on foot is nothing to be sniffed at, and I'll take it. The running ticked along too, seven sessions covering just over 40km at an average of 5:42 per kilometre, which is a pace I'm fairly comfortable describing as "steady" rather than "slow" (the gap between those two words doing a lot of heavy lifting). Six HIIT sessions rounded things out — short, sweaty, and over mercifully quickly.
So comparing that to May, the difference is fairly stark. Twenty-one activities in May versus forty-one in June, and the walking almost doubled, which I suspect has less to do with any sudden burst of virtuous intent and more to do with the fact that it was actually light outside and not raining sideways. The running improved too — four runs and 23.9km in May up to seven runs and 40.7km in June, and marginally quicker as well, which is what a bit of consistency will do for you. Whether I can keep this momentum going into July is another question entirely, but for now I'll take June as a quiet win and try not to jinx it.
