December 2024
Compared with November 2024
So December, and if the numbers tell any kind of story, it's that I spent a lot of time walking. 50 activities logged across the month, which sounds impressive until you realise that 33 of them were walks — racking up nearly 182km and almost 2,000 metres of elevation, which I'll take. The running dropped off a bit, seven sessions covering 35km at a pace of 5:33 per km, which is steady if not exactly flying, and all of them done indoors because apparently I've made peace with the treadmill. I squeezed in seven HIIT sessions and a couple of swims — the swims totalling 0.1km, which tells you everything you need to know about how those went — but the overall active time hit 2,410 minutes, so I'm calling December a win on volume if nothing else.
Comparing it to November is where it gets a bit humbling, if I'm honest. November had more structure — 12 runs, 12 HIIT sessions, and nine rowing sessions that I appear to have quietly abandoned by December, presumably because dark mornings and the general chaos of the festive season conspired against me. Total activities were down from 56 to 50, but active minutes were actually up, largely because the walking ballooned — over 700 minutes more of it than in November, which is either a sign of healthy habit-building or a man who's found a way to feel productive while avoiding anything that raises his heart rate above 104. So going into January the challenge is fairly obvious: dust off the rowing machine, get the run count back up, and maybe attempt a swim that covers more than the length of a very small pool.
