February 2025
Compared with January 2025
February then. 55 activities and just over 43 hours of moving about, which sounds impressive until you realise that the vast majority of that — nearly 32 hours worth — was walking. Still, I'll take it. The running held up reasonably well considering it's February in England and the primary motivation for getting out of bed before dawn is, frankly, unclear even to me; 13 runs, 67 kilometres, and a pace averaging 5:26 per kilometre, which is fine without being anything to write home about. I managed to drag myself to the pool twice for the Afternoon Swim sessions, totalling a modest 1.6km, which is either the beginning of something or a number I'll quietly ignore come March. The highlight — if we're being generous with the word — was picking up 4 PRs across the month, which at least suggests something is going in the right direction, even if I'm not entirely sure what.
So compared to January, February was a small step back on paper: 4 fewer activities, roughly 130 fewer minutes active, a little less distance covered on both feet and in trainers. January's running edged ahead too, 72.6km to February's 67.2km, though I did finally add swimming back in which January couldn't claim. Honestly, the slight dip makes sense — January has that grim, determined energy where you convince yourself this is the year, and then February arrives and reminds you it's still dark, still cold, and the novelty has worn off. The HIIT sessions stayed consistent at least, which is something to hold onto. The question going into March is whether I can nudge the running back up and keep the swimming going, or whether those two pool visits will turn out to have been my aquatic peak for 2025.
