March 2025
Compared with February 2025
So March turned out to be a reasonably solid month, all things considered — 61 activities and just over 2,600 minutes of actual movement, which sounds impressive until you realise roughly half of that was walking. Still, I'll take it. The running held up well, 13 sessions covering 67.7 km at an average of 5:22 per kilometre, which for me at this time of year is perfectly respectable. I managed to drag myself into the pool four times for a total of 5.3 km, which feels like a minor miracle compared to my usual relationship with swimming, and the HIIT sessions kept ticking along on 13 mornings where apparently I decided that suffering before breakfast was a good idea.
Comparing back to February, the headline numbers look similar on the surface — almost identical run distances, roughly the same HIIT count — but the activity total crept up from 55 to 61, which I think is mostly down to the days getting longer and the mornings becoming fractionally less grim (the Lunch Runs and Lunch Walks in March suggest I was actually willing to venture outside, which in February clearly wasn't happening much). The swimming jumped considerably too, from a fairly embarrassing 1.6 km across two sessions to 5.3 km across four, so something shifted there. So the direction of travel is encouraging, even if I'm not about to set any course records. Spring is arriving, the excuses are running out, and that's probably both a good and a slightly worrying thing.
