First time for everything

Monday, April 12th, 2010

So this weekend I achieved a first, as I managed to crash a powered vehicle and not require the presence of the emergency services to get me out….

*thankfully*

Low speed incident in a car park, sadly it will be down as my fault and not that of the person doing 20+ MPH in a place with a speed limit of 10 MPH, one of those things I guess, and no one was hurt, just my pride and McQeen.

Goodbye Gertie

Friday, November 6th, 2009

(doesn’t everyone name their cars!?)

So today after 3 years and 57470 miles Gertie Golf goes back so:

57470 miles / 32mpg (avg) = 1796 gallons of go juice
1796 gallons = 8165 litres
8195 x 115p litre (expensive fuel, rather than the norm) = 9424.25 UKP

of which 6126 UKP went straight to the government in fuel tax

Nice.

Or how about :

57470 miles @ avg speed of 20 mph = 2873.5 hours
2873.5 hours / 24 = 119 days 17.5 hours driving

What a stupid idea

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

So months ago, I was easily convinced that having another baby, a sibling for Iona would be a good idea, why wouldn’t it, the second child is cheaper, you have the experience to handle it all, and it stops the first born becoming such a monster, a spoilt brat (hopefully)

So here we are sitting on the sofa, I’m the only one with an alcoholic beverage and it has been a nightmare putting Iona to bed (an hour so far and the screaming goes on), remind me again, I did sign on for the second one didn’t I ?

So all things being equal, predictions for the next 12 months….

1 x new baby leading to….

2 x new cars

1 x new house

1 x new car seat

1 x new buggy

1 x new midlife crisis

*joy*

But then I’ll be someone’s Daddy again, and that is the most amazing thing ever ;-)

Meeting Baby

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

So here we are almost at the 12 week scan point, Iona still doesn’t want a baby brother or sister, or a dog for that matter, but would like a “meow meow cat”…. Thursday morning we head off to High Wycombe to meet our baby for the first time with the 12 week scan. Octavia is still suffering pretty badly from morning sickness, certainly worse than she did with Iona, this we’re taking as a good sign of everything still going along nicely, but it is pretty hard on Octavia.

Not really done too much thinking about what happens next, although we wanted Iona to have a sibling now that we’re here (hopefully) and have “the biggest secret you can’t tell anyone” to contend with it still doesn’t feel very real, the scan will change that, it did with Iona.

There is of course a massive amount of fingers crossed at the moment as well, things can and do go wrong, but I’m not dwelling on that, I didn’t last time, I’m generally an optimist and I see no reason to change, after all there are others in the family or deal with the worst case predictions on my behalf and so I let them worry about the things you can’t change.

Exciting!

Three kits can’t be wrong.

Thursday, March 26th, 2009

So after a shaky start yesterday with an all to early wake up alarm from Iona (0650 – not impressed) we managed to eek out getting out of bed until around 0830 ish, with much bouncing and impatience to get on with the day from Iona and zero enthusiasm to move from Octavia or I…. (and 0650 was still an hours lie in from my normal week day start time for me!)

So due to continued laziness on my part I didn’t bother going for the run I had planned (and it was mothers day) and so showered first, and then started the argument with Iona over what she would be wearing, as I was fighting I’s into her top I was presented with a recently pissed on stick, the one that has the ability to strike the fear right into the heart of any man, except me.  This one finally showed us what we wanted, where in the past there has been a line, there was a cross, and all things being equal I’m going to be a dad again at the end of November.

Boy is Iona in for a shock when she isn’t the centre of our world anymore.

So to check the reading, another stick was used later in the day, the cross on this one not coming through as strongly as in the morning, is Octavia pregnant or not, another stick was used the next morning just to be really really sure, that was positive as well.

Of course the first thing Octavia will have to do when she visits the doctors is piss on another stick!

So fingers crossed now.

;-)

Do you want a baby brother or sister Iona?

Thursday, March 26th, 2009

No she doesn’t she told me today as we were swimming, going to be in for a shock then (all things being equal)

Went to the doctors today with Octavia and Iona as she told her GP the good news, and it was really nice as the Doctor seemed genuinely pleased and gave very good advice…

Avoid this, that and a few other things, other than that, whatever will be, will be.

;-)

Exciting times, the more I think about it the more the list of things that will have to change in 2010 gets longer and longer, house, car(s) etc etc.
